Luggage transfer on seven trails, compared

Who will move your bag between beds, on which trails, and what they say it costs. Five trails have someone covering the whole route; Offa's Dyke takes two or three; the North Downs Way has no one.

By Tom Spencer ·

A luggage transfer service collects your bag from one night's bed in the morning and leaves it at the next, so you walk with a day sack. On most of the trails on this site someone does it for the whole route; on one, nobody does it on its own.

Everything below is from each company's own pages, or the trail's own list where that is all there is, read on 29 September 2026 (8 October for the West Highland Way and the North Downs Way). We quote a price only where the company publishes one. We earn nothing from any of these links, and we have not booked any of them: check with them before you rely on a price or a date. Most of their 2026 seasons end in October.

Trail by trail

West Highland Way. The most choice, and most of it priced for the whole route rather than by the day:

  • Sherpa Van: £75 a bag for the whole route, plus £15 a bag to drop at or collect from Inversnaid; 30 March to 18 October 2026, 20 kg a bag.
  • Travel-Lite and AMS Scotland: £80 a bag for one to four bags, £70 for five to eight, £65 for nine or more; 21 March to 18 October 2026, 20 kg a bag, Inversnaid only from 1 April to 4 October.
  • Highland Transfers: £45 a bag for up to three drops, £75 for up to seven, £90 for up to ten; 22 March to 19 October 2026.
  • Baggage Freedom: £50 a bag for one to three stops, £70 for four to seven, £90 for eight to ten. The same page also says £65 for the full trip, so ask.

Hadrian's Wall Path. Three companies, all covering the whole path in either direction:

  • Hadrian's Bags: £10 a bag a stage, plus £2 a booking; 21 March to 21 October 2026.
  • Hadrian's Haul: from £7 a bag a day, February to the end of October, from its National Trails listing.
  • Sherpa Van: £17.50 a bag a move, at least £34 a booking; 30 March to 18 October 2026.

Cotswold Way.

  • Carryabag: £10.50 a bag a drop for one bag, £6.60 each for two to four; 18 March to 31 October 2026.
  • Cotswold Luggage Transfers, Chipping Campden to Bath: a quote when you book.
  • Sherpa Van lists the southern Cotswold Way among its routes, without a price on the list.

Pennine Way.

  • Sherpa Van, the whole way: £23.50 a bag a move from Edale to Malham, £20 from Malham to Byrness, £40 from Byrness to Kirk Yetholm, at least two bags for the whole walk; 30 March to 18 October 2026.
  • Pennine Way Bag Transfer, Edale to Malham only: £23 a bag a transfer, at least two bags a booking.
  • Brigantes, 1 April to 30 September, prices on its route pages.

South Downs Way. Luggage Transfers covers the whole trail, and South Down Bag Transfers runs from Winchester to Eastbourne; neither publishes a price, so ask for a quote.

Offa's Dyke Path. Nobody covers the whole path on the Offa's Dyke Association's list: Walklite the southern section, Eco Carriers from Longtown to Knighton, and EV Luggage Services and Silver Sherpa from Knighton to Prestatyn. Plan on booking two or three, by section, and asking each for a price.

North Downs Way. We found no company that moves bags on it on its own. The National Trail's list names walking-holiday companies, which move bags as part of a package with the beds.

How to choose

On the West Highland Way the whole-route prices make it simple: one bag, one price, whatever your split. Elsewhere you pay by the move, so a longer walk costs more, and two people sharing a bag pay less each. Several say 20 kg a bag at most, and some charge more for out-of-the-way stops, like Inversnaid on Loch Lomond.

The planner lists the companies for each trail beside your plan, with the prices as they publish them and the date we read them, and on the North Downs Way it says what we found instead. Pick a trail to start.
