Where to stay on Offa's Dyke Path, night by night
Thirteen days, twelve nights. Most have three places or more on the Trail's list, though often a mile or so off the path; two in the north, Trefonen and Croes-wian, have one and none.
By Tom Spencer ·
The planner's default split for Offa's Dyke Path is thirteen days, from Sedbury Cliffs to Prestatyn. That makes twelve nights on the way. Ten of them have three places or more on the Trail's list, but on this trail the beds are often a kilometre or two from the path. Two nights, both in the north, are thin, and those are the ones to book first.
Two lists are counted below. The first is the National Trail's own accommodation list, read 27 September 2026: 240 places, 226 of which we could place by postcode. For each night we count the places on it within 2.5 km of the stop. The second is OpenStreetMap, read the same day. Neither is a booking check: a place on a list is not a room on your night, and we have not phoned anyone.

Night by night
In the planner's thirteen-day split, with a bed and breakfast each night:
- Night 1, Newland (15.3 miles from Sedbury Cliffs). Three on the list, all about 2.2 km away; OpenStreetMap adds Inglewood House, by the stop.
- Night 2, White Castle (14.2 miles). The stop is 1.1 km off the path. Three on the list, the nearest Great Tre-rhew Farm, a B&B with camping.
- Night 3, Llanthony (10.7 miles). The stop is 1 km off the path. Three on the list at 1.5 km, among them Llanthony Priory.
- Night 4, Clifford (12.6 miles). Seven on the list, the nearest a glamping site and a campsite 1.8 km away; OpenStreetMap adds the Baskerville Arms at 1.5 km.
- Night 5, Kington (13.1 miles). Four on the list, Swan House and The Walking Hub by the path.
- Night 6, Knighton (13.5 miles). Ten on the list, the Knighton Hotel and the Horse and Jockey among them.
- Night 7, Brompton (14.5 miles). Three on the list, the nearest Mellington Hall at 0.9 km.
- Night 8, Welshpool (12.9 miles). Three on the list, the nearest Moors Farm B&B at 0.5 km.
- Night 9, Trefonen (16.5 miles, the longest day). One place on the list, The Old Mill at Candy, 1.5 km off the path, and nothing on OpenStreetMap. Book this night first.
- Night 10, Llangollen (16.1 miles). Ten on the list, the nearest about 1.6 km away; OpenStreetMap has 25 places to stay around the town.
- Night 11, Llanferres (14.9 miles). The stop is 1.6 km off the path. Three on the list, among them the Druid Inn.
- Night 12, Croes-wian (12.7 miles). Nothing on the Trail's list within 2.5 km; OpenStreetMap has Plas Penucha, 1.3 km away, and a touring park. Book this one early too.
Day 13 is 10.5 miles into Prestatyn.
If Trefonen or Croes-wian is full, the planner will move the night: change the number of days, or open a day and pick another stop, and it shows what is listed near the new one.
Hostels and bunkhouses
The Trail's list has 18 places it calls hostels or bunkhouses. With the planner set to hostels, its split flags four of the twelve nights as thin: Kingswood, Leighton, Chirk and Graig Fechan.
What the lists will not tell you
Whether a place takes one-night stays at weekends, has single rooms, takes dogs, will fetch you from the path or will take a bag from a luggage transfer: none of it is on either list, and we have not asked. Those are the questions to ask when you book. The planner's day cards count each night's places on both lists, and its booking checklist puts the thinnest nights at the top.
